“Cas!” Dean shouted as he scanned the forest clearing, there were too many open spaces to be ambushed.

A stone angel appeared in front of him, alabaster-white, claws hooked just shy of his neck. Its lips were peeled back in a gaping snarl over wicked fangs and Dean stumbled back.

“Damn it, Sam!”

“Dean, they’re fast –“ Sam ran to his side, eyes pinned to the statue and Dean fisted a hand in his brother’s collar, needing to know he was there.

“Don’t blink,” Dean snapped and searched the clearing for any other sign of movement. Bastard thing was that you never saw these things until you saw them and their defence mechanism froze them to stone. “Don’t even blink!”

“I’m really trying here, but could you call the guy who doesn’t need to blink--?”

“Cas!” Dean bellowed and startled when a different angel appeared at his shoulder. He sighed with profound relief and rounded Castiel on the angel Sam was trying to stare down. “Finally! Watch him.”

“Wh—?”

Castiel blinked at the angel, confused, and Dean cursed in frustration.

“Don’t blink. Whatever you do, don’t blink!”

“Dean, how did you find the weeping angels? Or how did they find you?”

“Ten o’clock!” Sam floundered, waving a hand for their attention when another angel froze into being beside him. “Do you think maybe Cas could get us out of here?”

Castiel frowned at the angel frozen mid-snarl. “But you said you didn’t like—“

Dean cut him off abruptly. “I know what I said! Now I’m asking you to forget it and get us all out of here ‘cause when it comes to the ‘angel touch’ you’re sure as hell the lesser evil!”

Dean saw that Castiel wanted to roll his eyes at him. He put a hand on Castiel’s head to keep his attention on the angel instead.

“Guys, my eyes are watering….” Sam muttered, sounding distinctly nervous.

With a tight sigh, Castiel grasped Sam’s shoulder and Dean stepped closer when Castiel reached for his arm.

“Hold on, the moment I pull, they’ll try to grab you. Just hold on.”

There was a flicker in the forest clearing and the weeping angels lunged.
