I really hope you don't anticipate a coherent response to your comment, because I'm floored and can only tell you this feedback makes me incredibly happy. You should definitely leave feedback more often, your comments were so insightful and actually pointed out things that I hadn't consciously realised I was doing (e.g. food being the metaphor for their role and importance). A year on from when I wrote this, you've helped me reflect on this again and the complexity of their relationship with one another.
I always liked the notion that once upon a time in Heaven, the archangels knew each other completely even though dinner and sex are human customs, but the prompt was a great vehicle for exploring their well-established traditions and how they trusted each other to fall together, even if there was ultimate disappointment in parts.
Gabriel was definitely the voice and the most honest one to express and expose everything his brothers pushed down, despite their enjoyment; it could be a frustrating (though privileged) position to be in. Michael's indulgence was key, especially toting lines in the show like "I took care of [Lucifer] in a way that most people will never understand and I still love him." I might be wrong (about my own story), but I think Michael's still the one with the most power here despite Lucifer driving and arranging his brothers, because if Michael doesn't give that initial consent to Gabriel that he'll humour him, nothing else unfolds. Gabriel's the instigator, but Lucifer's just the opportunist who's probably the greediest for this thing between the three of them. And they both work so hard to break Michael apart. <3
I'm so humbled you came out of lurkerdom to leave me this wonderful feedback, thank you for reading!
