Thank you, the blend of sad and unfortunately funny was what I was going for! Sam sees life like he's wearing glasses with the wrong prescription, so he doesn't see and feel with the clarity of his brothers and the show's witnessed Dean finds that pretty devastating.
With the end of 6x07, we saw that Sam decided it would be a good idea to return to who he was. He didn't care to, but logic led him to the conclusion that it would be better in the long run, so he does things because he's supposed to, not because he wants to. A lazy shopper of ethics and morality is a great description for his attitude at the moment in this season.
I like to imagine that Adam would wake up properly and take the bottle off Dean, that if it became a persistent problem he would seek Sam's help to intervene. Although the show always shows them drinking with minimal backlash, I know what you mean: Dean has too many reasons to lose himself in a bottle and it wouldn't be hard to do.
