Grey's Anatomy is a pretty awful show. It's 'Bold and the Medical on candy cane'.

Eighty-five percent of the time I can't stand it because the interns, recently turned residents, are so-oo-oo-oo juvenile. They drive me out of my head.

Then Bailey comes along and I remember why I bother watching this show at all. She wails on Alex for a few seconds and somehow it makes the entire episode of bla-aa-ah worthwhile.

I've forgotten how much I adore her. I love the way her former interns defer to her authority without pause because she'll serve it to you straight. She demands the best of you and she'll never intentionally lead you astray.

Miranda Bailey holds our faith. \o/

Taking advantage of being one room away from the wireless modem, I decided to download the first episode of Sanctuary, a new sci-fi web series from the creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

(It couldn't be helped, Azureus Vuze (C) plugs it in your face everytime the application loads.)

I don't know how often going Web has been elected to pilot a new series, but what this show has done is offered its first two parts free. For all subsequent parts it asks you to pay $2.49, which, is pretty reasonable considering how much money I can spend on a meal.

SANCTUARY: Wherein I enjoy seeing familiar faces, make unconstructive commentary, and wish desperately for vampires and werewolves to be banned from this show. )

I hope this show is purposely luring me into a false coccoon of disappointment, preparing to slap me sideways with its creative and technical ingenuity in the next installment. I has part two. I will find out shortly.

I remember being underwhelmed by the Heroes pilot, but I'd heard good things about it and determined to keep watching. Today it's one of those shows I follow every week although not everyone's had the same reaction. I haven't heard *anything* about Sanctuary, but while nothing's driving me to keep on watching, I will see what I can in support of my SG actors.

Not going to consult Wiki at this stage [1]. That would be, like, cheating.

[1] At least, not until I start tearing my hair out.

Witness the Silent Rave! I was dangerously close to doing the same thing at work today and calling it my Friday Dance. It doesn't have the same effect when you do it solo.

It feels like it's been a while between updates, so I thought I'd broadcast an update as to what I've been doing and plan to do with this journal in future.

Then I decided to watch the series returns of Heroes and Bones instead. Wherein I burble. Hear me burble. This may contain traces of tv show spoilers. )

I had a rant in here of how siestas should become legislated government policy pertaining especially to state and commonwealth departments, but it distracted from the fandom. As I whiled away many an hour at work daydreaming of sleep, I somewhere decided to migrate over those writings from an older, disused journal for a general point of easy reference. So, all my old and other work will be appearing here in the coming future -- the good, the bad, and the embarassing.

I have 'Five (5) Things' lists waiting in a book that travels with me everywhere. I need to type them up sometime this century, it's been pending for months.

I have a real urge to get back icon-making in Photoshop, I never got around to making those Brimstone icons I started capping before my previous laptop died in its sleep. I also have a sneaking urge to abuse Heroes with new icons since it slapped me in the face with its pretty.

I've also discovered the engrossing spectacle that is Luke and Noah's story on As the World Turns (ATWT) -- it's like Bold and the Beautiful, but with (some) common sense. A new breed of soap opera spawned from an old mother.

Saw 'Hairspray' )

Saw Stardust. Loved it much more than Hairspray (before you hiss, to each their own!). Loved it so I have nothing to say, except that if you like romance, adventure well-blended with contemporary humour, you should enjoy this movie. I intend to see it again.

While I'm listing, I read Eragon fanfic in my sleep. It's a fandom of chronic update lags. I get really frustrated, then really, really happy when people update. Afterwards, I perform a cleansing ritual. It gets very cumbersome.

I can give no ETA on this migration initiative, but in the meanwhile, I'll visit with the occasional rec. Today is a fantastic Torchwood piece I crossed and meant to post some time ago. I know there's another rec I was supposed to share for someone, if it's you, please remind me.

Summary: "Ianto's filing boxes when he finds it.... Luminous in the corridor lights. Faintly blue-orange-silver. Almost remarkable inhuman, except for the fetal curl of the body and the crackle along Ianto's nerves that might be crying."
WHY: THIS MUST BE READ. If this had been an episode of Torchwood, I would have fallen for this team. This is a gorgeous, redeeming story set post-Season 1 finale, bringing out the sensitivities and better side of everyone I'd almost come to detest by the season's end. The best read I could have had at bedtime.

It seems to be the week of induction for me. Not only was I properly introduced to Transformers the other week (sort of, as far as beautifully loyal remakes count as inductions), but the other day [livejournal.com profile] lyore passed several DVDs of Doctor Who for [livejournal.com profile] necromage and myself to watch.

As of about seven minute ago I am officially caught up on the New Who! I've been up since 0530 in the morning, I've since gone to work AND choir practice, had a riveting time slamming those second As and I am knackered.

To be fair I cheated with a select watching schedule, but I'm at the same end and my God, I love this show. I don't know when was the last time I watched something that fascinated and disturbed me at the same time (no, Gladiator does not count it's just "'Sad', which is 'happy' for deep people"). Catharsis! Inter-textual-fandom fun and glory!

So, some spoilery comments and squeeage of scattered season viewing under the cut.

Doctor Who + Torchwood = Dude, where's my backup? )

I really don't know what I have to look forward to in Torchwood now, except, possibly a fresh and abounding sense of Team Love. I would be so lucky as I think this 'verse suffers SG-and-Whedon-itis, i.e. the inability of producers to equally divide their creative talents between two shows on air in the same universe.

As much as I enjoy having a new fandom to plough into, where's my SG-1 S10 season finale I was promised, eh, Boo? Eh??

Gratuitous gloating post. That's really all this is.

So, about two days ago Transformers was released in Australia, ahead of the American release date of July 4th.

I went along with some friends (and friends of friends) last night to see it, expecting a handful of nice effects, 'splosions and not much else.

I was quite pleasantly surprised.

Super-advanced robot.... It's gotta be Japanese. )

So, I really enjoyed it, but [livejournal.com profile] necromage enjoyed it so much she insisted we see it again when we went into the city this afternoon. Now, I'm very tired, but kind of happy I've managed to see it twice before it's even come out in most (or all) of America. Go see it and enjoy.

I'm out of Brimstone episodes.

[really has to stop watching the end of shows over dinner]

And I was actually enjoying it towards the end! Why couldn't they have cracked into the heavy plot in episode two?

Thoughts on Brimstone, i.e. the slash fans claim victory. )

Kudos to [livejournal.com profile] trascendenza for introducing me to this show, if it has angels (fallen or otherwise) in it I'll always check out a rec. Except that Angel in America bit, I never got round to that one.

Do you guys have any angel-related shows or films you'd like to share?

I'm watching Episode 12, "Captain Jack Harkness" of Torchwood to cheer myself. I love the nostalgic tone of the Western 40s (you know, aside from all the murder, bombing and depression) and there is nothing I DON'T like about this episode. Original Captain Jack makes me cry with happiness on sight (so pretty are the eyes) and Tosh is a darling for a deer in headlights (so determined is she).

Fly-by post:

Wilson on speed is possibly the funniest thing ever.

Friends mutually doping each other in House, M.D. am YES.

I imagine the slash fans had a field day with the House/Wilson/Foreman opportunities in whatever combination thereof. For the record, I don't slash this show because it's great in its original glory, but I can see how people could and would (quite easily).

This is also a notice to say that I'm going to be on hiatus for about the next fortnight as I finish the last of my assessment for the semester, i.e. for my degree. If all goes well I'll come back with bells on and a deluge of fic responses as I try to get caught up. Have fun all, and see you after two weeks! Wish me luck!

This evening I watched At World's End with my sister and my Mom who sat between the two of us -- I tried rearranging our seating at first so I would have [livejournal.com profile] necromage to cling to in my inevitable fits of glee, to which Mom said, "Cling to me." I ended up leaning over her for a lot of the film and waving at Mage, but a good time was had by all, though I really only wanted to cling when I recognised Groves. I was very tired when I walked in there and might have had hypertension by the end. Tiredness breeds overreaction, le sigh.

Did I like it? Oh, yes.

Did it wipe the floor with Dead Man's Chest like a dirty, used rag? Sir, yessah. Although, honestly, such a feat would not be difficult.

Some (not so) short thoughts post-film because there's already a lot of meta floating around about this and I've yet to read most/any of it. The below will contain heavy spoilers and assume you've seen the film.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Wherein everyone has their own agenda and Barbossa Owns All )

So, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End wins a 4/5 from me because the more I reflect on the good, the more my love grows.

This response could have been a lot shorter. Maybe I'll work at home tomorrow (someone needs to drag me out of bed before nine).

If you haven't seen it yet, remember to stay after the credits for the special scene. If you have a weak heart like I do, you might want to stay for it.

I finally got my hands on a copy of the Heroes season finale (1x23, "How to Stop an Exploding Man") and tried watching it while having a phone conversation with [livejournal.com profile] necromage who's halfway across the country. Distance means nothing!

So, as far as season finales go for a foundling series, I enjoyed it, although it felt a bit lacking. Maybe I can attribute this to all the comms I've been following where the excitement's been building during these last few weeks?

I liked a lot, I laughed even more and still found things to gripe about. Full reaction, questions and discussion beneath the cut, which contains heavy spoilers.

They call me, 'Mister Explodey'! )

How did you like the season finale?
