I have amended my earlier rule of internet usage on a laptop: never leave it on after 2130, especially if your father has a habit of patrolling the halls at one in the morning.
DAD: [ducks head in] Are you going to work in the morning?
K: Uh, yes?
DAD: It's already one in the morning....
K: Goodness, look at the time! ... It's all for a good cause, I swear!
And the cause is this:
SPOILERS in summary, AHOY!
Coda to an Epilogue: Twenty Years Later, Or The Kids Are All Right (PG-13) by
mistful
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
SUMMARY: Twenty years after the Epic Showdown in Hogwarts, Harry Potter meets a familiar face in the sewers of Durmstrang and discovers they are on the same mission to rescue their sons from ancient and giant alligators.
WHY THIS MUST BE READ: The only post-HP7 fic you'll ever have to read.
So, upon finishing the book, I was of the opinion that it *did* need an epilogue, without question. My only complaint was that Rowling gave us the wrong epilogue -- until I read this. Maya redeems Rowling's lazy effort with excellent characterisation, powerful nostalgia and an incredibly promising look into the futures of the next generation. I laughed so hard many times while reading this. I learned to adore those children who aggravated me by their power in numbers overwhelming so few pages by book's end.
Rowling doesn't need to pursue a literary saga of Potter after stardom's fade, Maya's done it for her -- better than Rowling may have attempted herself -- and best of all? It's free.
