When Anna caught her breath, she uncurled her fingers from the thin cot sheets of the panic room and let Ruby slump against her. Leaning her head back against the iron walls of the drum, the metal chill seeped through her scalp, cooling the sweat of her skin.
Ruby chuckled, the vibration rolling against her knee as Ruby slid up between her thighs, sweat-slick skin gliding against her. Anna smiled, stomach clenching at the sensation and Ruby nestled into her outstretched arms, peppering kisses to her forehead, her brow.
When Ruby kissed her nose, leaning their foreheads together, Anna desperately thought she had finally succeeded and maybe, finally, Ruby remembered her.
“Anything--?”
Ruby’s mouth crushed against hers, aborting the question. When she pulled back, teeth dragging over Anna’s lower lip, her eyes glittered black with her grin.
“Don’t be so hard on yourself,” Ruby teased, skimming a hand up Anna's thigh to her knee, “It’s just a fantasy.”
It wasn't fair being the only one who remembered that they’d both been among the Host. It was a lifetime ago, before Ruby fell to be human, then a witch, before the final terrible twist of condemning herself to eternity as a demon. Anna had plunged after her, but she had hesitated too long.
“Devil’s traps don’t hold you,” Anna reasoned even as Ruby nibbled her ear, “And holy water can’t scar you -- Ruby!”
Ruby huffed and sat back on Anna’s thighs, lips pressed in a thin line. Her eyes blinked back to normal as she ran a hand through her hair impatiently, doing her best impression of paying attention.
“Please, listen to me,” Anna begged, taking Ruby’s face in her hands, but Ruby looked down and pulled them away. She could never see eye-to-eye when Anna got like this, “If you can remember, there’s a chance; there’s a chance I can take you home and –“
"Do you think they'd take either of us back?" Ruby shook her head firmly, “No, sweetheart.”
Tangling their fingers against her stomach, Ruby watched Anna’s face fall when she kissed her soft and sweet. Ruby smiled and nuzzled against her lips.
“You’re coming home with me.”
