Castiel gasps when Lucifer's fingers brush his cheek and jaw.
There's a flash of something behind those blue eyes and then the stillness of Castiel flickers from his face. The vessel blinks in startled awareness and his breaths are harsh, like he's broken the surface for air.
Lucifer was happy to oblige.
"What... what happened? What did you--?"
Lucifer smiles at the vessel's panic and cups the back of his neck.
"James. Jimmy," Lucifer says, low and firm, "Castiel is fine. He's sleeping, but I'll need him to find some new accommodation."
Jimmy goes stiff with terror, so Lucifer kneads the muscles under his fingers.
But Jimmy is reluctant to relax and his voice cracks hoarsely when Lucifer lays his other palm flat on Jimmy’s chest.
"Who are you?"
Lucifer plays the blue tie between his fingers and it frays with the frost, threads separating and cracking under his attention.
"I'm your salvation, Jimmy, and I'm going to give you everything."
Jimmy's shaking and he can't look away from Lucifer's face. His eyes are incredibly blue.
If only he didn't look so afraid.
"What do you want?"
Lucifer thumbs the cleft in Jimmy's chin and cups his face in both hands.
"Don't be afraid, Jimmy."
"Why do you keep saying my name?"
Lucifer tries not to smile, but it must show and Jimmy suddenly looks more worried.
“My name is Lucifer.”
A low, broken sound strangles in Jimmy’s throat and Lucifer’s eyes drop to his mouth, willing his lips to part and let it escape. A vision burns behind his eyes of pushing Jimmy’s lips apart with his own mouth and swallowing every delicious sound Lucifer could wrangle from him.
His fingers tighten on the back of Jimmy’s neck, sliding over the short hairs and he’s proud of his resolve when he doesn't bite that mouth open.
“Are you going to kill me?” Jimmy asks and swallows thickly.
Lucifer pulls the collar of Jimmy’s coat straight, tugs him a clumsy step forward by his lapels.
“You’re my vessel, Jimmy; my true vessel.”
Jimmy’s face twists in shock and confusion. He’s been Castiel’s host for some time now, so he’s safely certain that Jimmy understands, but his lips are still working to form the question.
Lucifer saves him the effort and swipes a thumb at the corner of that mouth that is quickly becoming his obsession.
This could be a problem.
“So, I’m not going to kill you. I'm instead going to burn down anyone who wishes you harm, ever again. And I'm going to enjoy it."

Date: 2010-10-08 12:28 am (UTC)Yeah, I have to agree with your remark about Lucifer's characterisation. It's actually the reason I didn't write much of Sam/Lucifer when it first began and left it to the experts: I was stumped as to how I could get someone as dark and vicious as he is in my head to let himself be vulnerable (because that's what love is) to a 'cockroach'.
I think Sam is the one human that Lucifer actually has the ability to truly see as something other than a cockroach to be squashed or dismissed
You're absolutely right about this and the point that it's because Lucifer and Sam are, in some ways, the same. The way the show writers set the story up (especially after Michael's first speech), they couldn't have been more heavy-handed in this parallel unless they tattooed 'twins' on each angel and vessel. Or something along the lines of 'Lucifer = Cain = Sam'; they were wearing my patience pretty thin by the end. I vaguely remember shouting at the TV when Adam and Sam were in the graveyard because I was so tired of them trying to make Michael and Lucifer the ethereal version of Sam and Dean (and vice versa) at every opportunity. It may have been along the lines of, 'Stop whining and start kicking some ass!'
Maybe you just write him well because you identify with him. :P
Are you calling me mean and lazy? ;P Okay, the writers have made him fairly easy to symapthise and identify with, but I promise I haven't masqueraded as anyone's dead girlfriend for a while!
All of this completely explains why the sequel I've written turned a hard left in the direction it did; now I know what happened. It's, ahem, not as short or plotless as I'd like [hides WIP under couch].

Date: 2010-10-09 08:19 am (UTC)The thing that makes me mad that the writers went there is that Cain and Abel hated each other. Like, real hate-hate, not love-hate. Sam and Dean have often been furious with each other, but they never hated each other. In fact, I don't even think they've ever even said those words when they weren't joking around. And even Lucifer and Michael don't fit the Cain and Abel mold because they're completely obsessed with each other and even when they're intent on killing each other, they won't let anyone else do it. That was sloppy symbolism the writers tried to shoehorn the characters into just so they could justify a plot point that maybe wasn't something that otherwise made sense. And the only thing that the Dean/Sam relationship has in common with the Lucifer/Michael one is that both involve an obsession with each other and difference of opinion, and I guess Daddy issues, but still, completely different interactions. And the fact that the writers keep fucking with Sam's characterization, or at least the way he's perceived by other characters, to equate him with evil and Lucifer the Wackjob (I say that with love), is infuriating, which you would think would make me loathe Sam/Lucifer as a pairing, but it actually makes me need it done well even more. Because it's like the only one who's left to possibly see Sam clearly anymore, is Lucifer, which is heartbreaking when you think about it. I would add Gabriel to the very short list, but you know, poor Gabriel (::sob::). Which is why I also crave Gabriel/Lucifer/Sam and Gabriel/Sam.
Oh, for a *while*, huh? I'm trying to cut back on that, myself. :D
Hey, I'm not against plot, especially when it means MORE STORY. Unless I'm the one trying to write it, because I actually am a lazy person. Which is why I've written tons of unfinished things that never get posted. Happy writing, though, and take your time. I'm sure plenty of people would find it worth the wait. I know I would.

Gabriel/Lucifer/Sam am yes and has actually been done unlike some of the rarer fun I keep falling into: why can't I write the popular ships?? I peeked, tripped and fell into Lucifer/Jimmy/Castiel territory instead. A very specific friend calls this a revolution and it has students waving little red books demanding sandwiches. It went there.
