Date: 2011-01-25 01:02 pm (UTC)1. When or if I started shipping them:
That episode on the park bench. I knew fandom would have leaped at the chance to slash the boys with a new toy, and I was fascinated by the way people initially approached Castiel as another entity.
2. What I think their challenge is:
Dean's deficit sense of self-worth and Castiel's inability to put up with bullshit. I kind of love this about Castiel's evolution, though, I wouldn't want him to change. XD
3. What makes me happy about them:
It's a H/C trope that one half of the relationship turned their back on everything they held dear for the other person (and sure, the higher purpose of saving humanity). I, like many others, was sucked in by that "I did it, all of it, for you" speech and the follow-up ass-kicking in the alleyway when Dean tried to give up.
4. What makes me sad about them:
Dean is stupid. Dean will never stop being stupid and until he decides to change, it could never succeed as a healthy, long-term relationship.
5. What moment I wish had never happened:
"Dean and I share a profound bond" -- I like subtlety, I gorge myself on subtext and this just felt like cheap fanservice. But it was still funny as hell. :D
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
Of the characters who are still alive, I was going to say Sam, but that would just be another clusterfuck waiting to happen unless THEY ALL GET TRUCKED OFF TO THERAPY. If Dean pulled his head out of his ass and sorted his issues, he could go back to Lisa and Ben, and Castiel could get Sam. I quite enjoy the notion of Sassy.
7. My happily ever after for them:
The Winchesters get some goddamn group therapy, Castiel wins the war in Heaven and happily delegates the admin so he can spend Dean's days on Earth with him until they're all reunited in Heaven with John, Mary and the entire motley crew that gave their lives for for the job, every day is pie day and Castiel gets to wear more than one suit. Because suits are the shiz and should not be taken for granted. <3

Date: 2011-01-25 01:16 pm (UTC)Some of the best explorations of Castiel's true form were in the early days, before the majority of people realised it was okay to treat him as human for the most part -- a thousand-year-old virgin with issues of righteousness. I don't have any issues with this, but I really enjoyed those metaphysical ideas that were bouncing around more in the beginning and people were really tentative about his intimacy. XD
You also agree that therapy is mandatory and Castiel should wear more than one suit? :D

Date: 2011-01-25 01:22 pm (UTC)I think in Dean's case, therapy might be necessary. And if Castiel didn't wear a suit at all I'd be ecstatic. XD
I still re-read fics like that. XD

Date: 2011-01-25 01:35 pm (UTC)= Castiel/Adam =
1. When or if I started shipping them:
I read a story once that Castiel recognised the tragedy that Adam's life had become with each turn worse than the last, was motivated by his Father's compassion, and rescued Adam from the cage. Unless I imagined the whole thing?
2. What I think their challenge is:
Adam harbours a lot of resentment towards his brothers and his Dad for not telling him the truth, him getting eaten alive for it, and the fact that the fun didn't stop there. I think, as a result, he and Dean would butt heads a lot and Adam would potentially try to leave, which would test Castiel's loyalties. There's no getting around the fact Castiel is who he is today because of Dean, and that could be more fuel to the fodder of Adam's resentment.
3. What makes me happy about them:
This combo strikes me as a saving grace, it could be very sweet and I think there would be a very real chance that Castiel's angelic otherness could save Adam from twisting into something dark and destructive.
4. What makes me sad about them:
If it isn't sweet, it could be a very bitter, jealous thing that could destroy them both. And that would honestly be devastating.
5. What moment I wish had never happened:
I'm frustrated the show ever thought it needed to jump the shark and bring Adam in, in the first place, because he became a scapegoat for every bad thing and he's going to rot in that cage; it's unbelievably unfair and is the primary reason I started writing Adam in the first place.
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
I really, really like Michael/Adam. Like, really. If not Michael, Adam should have his brothers -- not one, but both. It's all or nothing with the Winchesters. Castiel could end up with Dean, because they're effectively canon.
7. My happily ever after for them:
Adam gets to go to Heaven AND STAY THERE, WITH BARS ON ALL THE ENTRANCES SO NOBODY BUT IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND CASTIEL CAN ENTER. Seriously. Leave the poor kid alone. Before he goes to Heaven, Adam could be resurrected on Earth and try his hand at hunting, and perhaps decide he wants to become a doctor after all. He'd probably end up as a trauma surgeon with the armed services because I'd be really impressed if he could sit still through the mundane gossip, intrigues and white-wall culture of a hospital after everything he'd seen. Castiel would be his angel hovering out of sight, still in Heaven, but visiting Adam in the quiet moments when he was needed most.

Date: 2011-01-25 02:31 pm (UTC)I read a few Michael/Adam stories before I started shipping them. My clearest memory of when I started liking it was a story
2. What I think their challenge is:
Following the conventional assumption that Michael forced Adam to be his vessel, there's a lot of trauma to work through and trust to rebuild. An easy road, it would not be.
3. What makes me happy about them:
I love the idea that in a universe where they do end up together, the ages old, righteous and powerful Michael would have had to learn some real humility and made huge gestures of penance to compel Adam to consider him. And it would have been such a long, deliciously, achey road. I loved the idea so much I started writing it late last year and is turning out to be an accidental epic.
4. What makes me sad about them:
Following on from (2), it effectively started as rape. Uncool, man. That aside, they both have huge Daddy issues and I think Michael could easily crush Adam sooner than humble himself or admit his own faults, unless he has more compassion than the show demonstrated. Lucifer/Michael also weighs heavily on my mind and I can't help thinking Michael could be distracted with these thoughts when he's with Adam, leading to sad, angry faces and gratuitous H/C. Actually, H/C could rarely be gratuitous with these two; more, please.
5. What moment I wish had never happened:
I wish Michael!Adam hadn't fallen down the hole. Then at least Adam wouldn't be stuck down there by himself with two of the most terrifying angels in creation and we'd see more of them both on airtime, yay! However, now we have the prospect of Lucifer/Adam/Michael, which is not a terrible thing. :D
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
Michael could end up with any of his brothers, strange, but in my mind there's a lot of history and old bonds there that could rear up again given have the chance, and potentially heal old wounds. Adam could have Castiel or his brothers (I'm not consciously trying to 'cest everyone, I swear!), for the reasons I mentioned in the earlier comment to this.
7. My happily ever after for them:
Michael gets his own vessel (that is not Dean) and consensually stalks Adam through his boring, human life of work and study until he can convince Adam to move to the wider country where there is fresh air, space and something remotely resembling nature. Adam becomes the local doctor at some small town where the locals appreciate his tact and wry humour, but have a love/hate relationship with the freakishly GQ!Michael who glares at everyone, has no social skills or desire to interact with anyone but Adam, but they learn to love more than hate him when he demonstrates what an effective town protector he is. And possibly saves the wine harvest. Many long, lazy afternoons are had in gloriously stereotypical cottages with stupidly large beds and aforementioned wine. The end?
Re: = Michael/Adam =
Date: 2011-01-25 07:09 pm (UTC)A lot of this is exactly how I feel about them and my happily ever after is almost identical to yours, lol. No, seriously, the ending I have planned for my Big Bang is a lot like this - with some marked differences, of course. But you know how I am; I want there to be some fluff, especially for someone so down on his luck like Adam. It's like he had a rabbit's foot, didn't even know about it, and it was stolen...poor kid. I feel like my Michael is too nice, though, as he tries to appease and win Adam over. Oh well, a little romance (that's borderline creepy) can go a long way. xDD
Also, I love how your mind works. Cas/Adam is something this fandom needs so bad! D: I've read one, I think, and it wasn't really even overt; it could have passed for friendship. Not that I don't think Cas/Adam and, for some reason, Gabe/Adam, which occurs in oodles in my mental canon (which ignores actual canon), aren't cool, cause they are pretty epic, but I'd like to see Cas/Adam slash. I mean, Adam has enough attributes from Sam and Dean to incorporate the things both Sassy and Destiel shippers love, so...why not?

Re: = Michael/Adam =
Date: 2011-01-26 08:12 am (UTC)I pulled that happily ever after out of my ass, then I realised that I'd really like to write that. The 'happily ever after' segment would be a fun saga in its own right, I know a little about the challenges of doctors working in small towns, so I'd like to sit down and write this story properly.
I want to write this Cas/Adam now, too. DANGNAMIT. Why am I so easily dazzled?? I think we read the same Cas/Adam because the friendship tone sounds familiar, it was subtext and quite a nice, short stand-alone piece. Are there any Gabriel/Adam pieces out there? Or are they all in your head, and, if so, when are you going to share? :P
Re: = Michael/Adam =
Date: 2011-01-27 01:38 am (UTC)You should write a Cas/Adam...and a Gabriel/Adam, too, because I would like it to exist outside of my head, but I'm too lazy to do it myself. Although I do have this weird Sam/Gabriel that has a big focus on the relationship between Gabe and Adam (but, unfortunately, not that kind of relationship). If only I could push my procrastinating self to finish it...:P

Date: 2011-01-27 02:08 am (UTC)Just from the comm name, I thought the spn_j2_bigbang comm was for RPS? It's not? Connection is dodgy here, but I'll try to check for myself....
Re: = Michael/Adam =
Date: 2011-01-28 06:56 pm (UTC)I thought the same thing about spn_j2, but people were talking about all kinds of pairings for it, so I checked the rules and almost anything goes. The only rule concerning RPS is that Jared or Jensen, if you do do an RPS fic, have to be one of the premiered characters, and any SPN character is usable if they've had airtime in canon. So, of course, I'm taking the opportunity to spread my -
obsessive, maybe?- Adam love. ^^Re: = Michael/Adam =
Date: 2011-01-29 06:42 am (UTC)I adore you for sharing the Adam love. I've been thinking about joining up ever since you raised it and I read the rules, but I'd have to make my mind up soon because sign-ups close shortly.

Date: 2011-01-26 08:00 am (UTC)1. When or if I started shipping them:
Late last year, I was looking through
2. What I think their challenge is:
The real estate is definitely a significant issue: two angels (one being an archangel, no less) sharing one vessel cannot be easy and was one of the ideas I was exploring with the third part that's in progress. The second issue is how well, how long and at what cost Castiel and Jimmy could survive with Lucifer at the helm. In my headspace, Jimmy's having serious second thoughts and Castiel's loyalty is to Jimmy first. Lucifer's obsessed with keeping Jimmy, but his Big Plans come first.
3. What makes me happy about them:
The hotness -- I never pretended to be philosophical about this. XD But I also love the push and pull of the angels on Jimmy with Lucifer in one ear telling him, "You know you want to be with me" and Castiel in the other, saying, "I'm with you, BUT THIS IS A BAD IDEA". I don't like making people choose, so I let Jimmy have them both. Plus, Jimmy is surprising fun to write.
4. What makes me sad about them:
I think that by the end of their journey Castiel and Jimmy would be unrecognisable if they stayed. We could be sad about it, or we could look on the bright side: dark is sexy.
5. What moment I wish had never happened:
I sort of wish Raphael hadn't blown Castiel up, because then we'd have firmer ground to stand on with the proposal Jimmy was still around to be corrupted by the angels (in my head, he went to Heaven after the S4 finale).
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
Lucifer could have Castiel, Sam, or any of his brothers: if he's with a vessel, it's a journey of change with the vessel as the mentor of humanity and morals, but if he's with one of his brothers it's about learning forgiveness and change together. Jimmy could have Castiel or Dean and vice versa because I like the idea that Castiel and Jimmy have conversations that would let them, to some extent, be mutually involved in any of their relationships.
7. My happily ever after for them:
... I'll let you know when I get there, but I have a feeling 'happily ever after' will be a very subjective term of phrase. XD
