I say 'eccentric ideas', because this is the Google definition of a 'kink'. Truly, I tell you, Google knows little about a lot of things. :P

While waiting for my brain to come back online, have a meme I ganked from [livejournal.com profile] grlkat2.

It's a kink meme. Wherein I get too academic and stuffy for my own good, but I realise there are still tropes to be tampered with on my writing to-do list.

Creatures/Aliens: Why, yes. Creatures and aliens deserve love and/or attention, too. I will write and read this.

Mpreg: I actually have written mpreg before, a long time ago for Final Fantasy VIII. Part of the appeal of mpreg is the fascination of the couple creating their own family and the new level of intimacy that comes with it, the (sometimes false) assumption that children bring out instincts in us that not only change, but enhance a couple’s relationship with each other. I’ve enjoyed some excellent mpreg stories in the past and, although I don’t actively pursue these anymore, I’m certainly not averse to reading or writing it.

Slave, BDSM, D/s, S&M: I’m more interested in the psychological side of trust than the physical acts, so if a story deals with this, rather than just a play-by-play of what’s going on in the bedroom, I’ll stick around to read it. I’ve only ever written light bondage, but writing an understated D/s that an outsider almost wouldn’t notice if you were none the wiser is something I’ve been meaning to try for a while.

Age Difference: Mental age is what matters for me. We write in fandoms full of supernatural creatures where people can be separated by a few years to a few hundred, or even some millennia. So, for me, what’s more important is the relative mental age of the people involved and what they’re going through in their lives at the time.

I would be sceptical about a 30 year-old picking up a 15 year-old kid; kid being the important thing to note here. I wouldn’t care less if a 30 year-old and 45 year-old were to hook-up – it’s the same age difference, but there’s more of a chance that the 30 year-old and 45 year-old would be on the same page than the adolescent and adult (also, illegal? XD).

Having said all of that, though, sure I’ll admit I enjoy stories where the couple have to wait for the younger to turn legal as much as the next person. Oh, sweet restraint, you are so much fun.

Bloodplay: The amount of blood I can tolerate is directly proportional to the degree of crazy of the characters involved (e.g. If Alastair is in the room, I expect it): it has to make sense for the circumstances. Generally, bodily fluids don’t interest me, but blood is that one exception because of its metaphor. If you treat every drop of blood like an offer of life, it’s suddenly much more interesting: you can draw patterns with it, you can stopper it, you can control how much to give, or you can let it rush away in a waste.

Underage (chan): Underage-on-the-brink-of-adulthood = yes. Anything below that line = no, unless the story treats the issue seriously and the author shows they’ve done their research; at this point it becomes an academic interest. I couldn’t write true chan from a positive point of view, but I wouldn’t exclude it from a story if it fit with the rest of the landscape.

Crossdressing/Genderbender: When there's a significant point or difference by the genderbend, it's often fun and interesting! I wrote a crossdressing-for-great-justice fic in Castle where Ryan and Beckett had to go undercover in a drag queen beauty pageant and that was a lot of fun. I have no issues with crossdressing or genderbending, but it’s not a kink I actually have, so I don’t seek it out. :]

Bodyswap: Is definitely an ingredient for grander fun times! I don’t think I’ve ever written it, though, so I’ll have to remedy that.

Dubcon: As [livejournal.com profile] grlkat2 said, this is persuasive sex, but if it’s still dubious, it suggests there was some element of participation or (mistaken or not) consent that stopped it from tipping into the territory of non-consent. I like, read, and write dub-con if both parties eventually agree, because if you don’t have that final consensus, strictly speaking, it’s non-consent.

Noncon: It happens. It’s tragic. It’s awful and it affects more than just the direct victim. I’ll read stories where this happens, but I expect it to be treated with an understanding of all those things and if it’s not, well, there are plenty of other stories out there that will. If there is magical healing cock sex soon after the event, I tend to crack up and move on – please, please consider your fellow person’s psychology 101. Although I generally don’t write stories where the subject matter gets this heavy, like chan, I wouldn’t exclude it from a story if it fit, but I wouldn’t write it explicitly.

Incest/Selfcest: This is like asking, ‘Have you ever written in the Supernatural fandom?’ It’s safe to say the majority of SPN writers have dabbled with incest at least once because this show is all about the terrible, wonderful, the wrong and downright insane things we’ll do to preserve our families, go above and beyond the call of duty and, in the Winchester’s case, nature.

I’ve written wincest (Sam/Dean), ‘win-mill-cest’ (Sam/Dean/Adam), and angelcest (in too many combinations), but the bottom line of this trope for me is that it has to be consensual (and if it isn’t, the story will just need to come with the relevant warnings).

As for selfcest: when I first found out about this, I don’t think I stopped laughing for two days. It ups the ante on narcissism when treated with humour (read: Gabriel) and poses interesting questions for the character’s sense of self and esteem when considered with a straight face. I remember reading a present!Castiel/2014!Castiel fic once which was written with deadpan seriousness and it was done exceptionally well. In conclusion, I will read anything, though I haven’t written selfcest yet (false!Michael/Michael doesn’t completely qualify because one of them wasn’t real).

Threesome/moresome/gangbang: Hell to the yeah on the first two. If you’ve ever heard me burble, you’ll know I have a terrible weakness for not leaving people out, which means that rather than make someone choose between two people, I’ll usually let them have both. Or all three (or more). You’ll see a lot of threesomes on my journal, moresomes will probably follow shortly, but gangbangs are beyond that line I draw of ‘only if I have to because it fits within this larger story’.

Death: Death is not a kink for me – unless we’re talking about the Horseman because just having him around exuding his awesome is definitely something I could have more of in the Supernatural fandom. However, necrophilia, even when the dead person(s) is animated is just not a turn on for me, so if I wrote it, it would be a terrible, guilty, angst-ridden encounter serving more as a ‘mourning in action’ for both parties.

Watersports/scat: More than chan, more than noncon and gangbangs, this -- just – no. XD No, thank you, not for me.

Crossovers: Are awesome because they take both sets of characters out of their comfort zones and see how they cope with other fully-formed characters on their own missions, priorities and self-interests. My favourite crossovers are those where two or more ‘verses with similar world rules meet and seamlessly blend together, but when two worlds that should never ever work come together neatly, that’s even more impressive.

Unhappy/wide-open endings: Tear my heartstrings, but are sometimes necessary to stay true to the story’s integrity.

Violence/torture: I will always endorse BAMFs kicking ass. Violence and torture, whether physical, mental, or emotional, all have their place and I do enjoy myself a good dark!fic when done well.

Established relationship: I definitely enjoy these and they fit more when your focus is not the journey but the challenges that are still around, or the fun moments in time, when you’ve gotten over that initial hump of agreeing to be together. For most people, that initial confession is the hardest part, but the work doesn’t end there.

RPF (real person fic): I’m not interested in performing celebrities' personal lives, so this is one part of fandom that passes me by. If I pretend that the celebrities aren’t real people, though, and treat it like original fiction, I can definitely read them.

Band Fic: I love rock music and I love writing; it’s inevitable these two things should eventually cross over. I probably don’t know enough about bands and band culture to actually attempt it myself, so I’ve been lucky enough to have people like the lovely [livejournal.com profile] synnerxx write it for me. :D One of the most unexpected and geekily satisfying band fics I ever read, though, was by [livejournal.com profile] copper_on_mars where Lucifer, Sam, Adam, and Michael had to play in a quartet in the Cage. Because God would only provide those instrument and sheet music if there was a point, like earning your freedom through persistence and cooperation, right? Right?? :DD (Perhaps not.)

AUs: I love these so well. I prefer that the characters’ personalities remain the same, otherwise they may as well be different people, but sometimes the irony is seeing them displaced because you know how different they originally were.

Food: I used to have a big issue with food in the bedroom. XD Despite the effort of some friends, I, personally, am still not convinced of the fun if we’re talking food as part of sex and not just foreplay, beyond just sauce or drinks. And before anybody asks -- sadly, you'll probably never see whipped cream in my stories because I am prejudiced against it. XD

In conclusion, I love happy endings, I hate to leave anyone out in stories, and I will read anything for pure academic purposes. But I can't condone whipped cream, even on cake. :P
