The 'Five Things' Challenge!
Comment on this post with a 'five things' prompt for one of the fandoms listed below and I will answer with five alternate responses to the prompt, e.g. "Five People Rodney Banned From His Lab" (Stargate Atlantis), "Five Times Batman Called on Nightwing for Help" (Batman), "Five Things Gabriel Misses of Heaven" (The Prophecy), etc.
As this is very experimental, five prompts will be available per fandom -- if this works well the number might expand the next time around. Lurkers welcome, I don't have to know you if you'd like to request something. You can request as many as you like, so long as it's still available on the list.

Re: Five Songs Bruce Hums to Himself When He Thinks No One Can Hear
Date: 2007-05-11 06:50 am (UTC)Dream a Little Dream! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee! You seriously could not have picked any better songs, could you? Each of these is like a wonderful little glimpse into his psyche.
#3 ROCKS. I just... the absolute dichotomy that's going on is so.damn.Bruce. Plus, Alfred smiling is always a bonus. :D Also, the style you wrote that particular one really matches what's happening in the scene.
#4: HAHAHAHAHAHA. Pure awesomesauce. Love your Brucie. :D
#5: Ooooooh, nice. With the cape and cowl his words are instinctively harsh, so he tries again. Perfect line. And the dynamic you have between the two of them is lovely.
Why haven't I read your SR piece yet? Egads, I must find more time in the day! You are awesome at these characters!
Re: Five Songs Bruce Hums to Himself When He Thinks No One Can Hear
Date: 2007-05-11 02:40 pm (UTC)Swan Lake is so emo, but the contrast of its tragedy with the mundanity of Bruce tidying his desk slotted itself into place. And I'm convinced that Alfred is everything to Bruce, his father figure, his carer, his friend, his medic, his confidante, his conscience... a lot of these overlap. There can be no Bruce without Alfred!
BB!Bruce has a soft side. I thought Dream a Little Dream might have been one of his mother's favoured records, so he might associate it with 'nicer' trains of thought. As I've written him, you can see most of his humming happens subconsciously when he's distracted. This is mostly because I have no idea what music would have been 'in' for Bruce's generation (the way kids of the 80s grew up with Michael Jackson, Will Smith and Captain Planet).
Whee, thanks! I had a horrifying flash of A Clockwork Orange while writing this, the song was originally going to be "Singin' in the Rain", but the final result worked better thematically. I think.
I did it my-yy-yy wa-aa-aa-aa-aa-ay! :D If only I could get Bruce drunk enough at a karaoke bar to have his fool way with the microphone. I can see him doing this to embarass his present company, more than anything else. He seems to have little qualm making a fool of himself at the benefit/expense of others.
Hmm, Superman/Kal-el is still sketchy to me, so I'm still exploring for the right frequency on which to channel ze Kryptonian muse. Bruce is easy to access on the negative side of the coin. Growl for me, Brucie, and show that you care.
[lol] You've been servicing the internet with your own challenge and battling your brain-eating project, it's a fair excuse. This comment suddenly got very long.
Re: Five Songs Bruce Hums to Himself When He Thinks No One Can Hear
Date: 2007-05-11 08:33 pm (UTC)Word! I love reading about their dynamic because it feels so... happy family, even if they aren't quite. If that makes sense, ha.
...you can see most of his humming happens subconsciously when he's distracted.
I think that's very spot-on; I can't really picture Bruce bursting out into song unless he's doing the playboy routine. With such a conscious effort to ruthlessly repress parts of his personality, this is exactly where I think they would bubble up.
He seems to have little qualm making a fool of himself at the benefit/expense of others.
Ha, so true! It would be such a challenge to write a story where he actually enjoys himself in some kind of situation like that; I think even under the influence he'd have a very difficult time unwinding enough to have his acute awareness of EVERYTHING fade into the background enough for him to genuinely enjoy himself.
Funny, I find Kal so much easier to write. Perhaps because he's a woobie and I ♥ wobbies. *g*
My comments frequently have a tendency to do that. I never really notice how verbose I am until I see how long the little scrollbar's gotten, hehehe.

Now remember, that's *your* Clark/Richard/Bruce OT3 challenge! Under the impression that Bruce and Clark have never met, either Bruce really likes and trusts Richard or... Bruce is going along with a front. Again.
Interesting, so, you write the woobie and I'll write the growling. We'll meet somewhere between the two. ;]
Heh heh, people can comment as long as they like, I'll never complain!
Re: Five Songs Bruce Hums to Himself When He Thinks No One Can Hear
Date: 2007-05-12 04:11 am (UTC)LOL. Yeah, you have that and perfectly ironed sheets, and there's no villain you can't take on ;)
Eeeek, yes, that will be quite the challenge. I may have to come up with a college history that will give Bruce a *reason* to trust Richard... though that shouldn't be too hard, because really. Richard is Mr. Trustworthy.
Yeah, we should give each other tips! I'm terrible at writing anyone angry or insulting. I always write people sad and hopeful and vulnerable.
Hehehe. I'm starting to see why we get along... ;)
Re: Five Songs Bruce Hums to Himself When He Thinks No One Can Hear
Date: 2007-05-12 04:38 am (UTC)RICHARD: [hiccups, to Bruce] Haven't you heard my rep? I'm a nice guy and you can trust me. Look, I'm stopping now. [pushes his glass across the counter] No more.
BRUCE and CLARK exchange a glance.
BRUCE: Don't let him fool you, he can hold his licquor.
CLARK: So, how do you know Richard?
RICHARD: Waitress! One for my friends, please. Put your wallet away, Bruce, you're not paying.
BRUCE: [smiles] We were study partners for International Relations in college. What about you, Clark?
CLARK: [looks shiftily at Richard] Oh! We, uh... Richard and I work together. At the Planet. Lois introduced us.
BRUCE: Ah. [claps Richard on the back. Richard looks pained.] Congratulations on your engagement. I always intended to send you a card.
RICHARD: It's over. [howls] It's over!
BRUCE: Hmm, I must have missed the memo.
CLARK: It was a recent development. [quickly murmurs] He's not usually like this.
(Pause)
BRUCE: Waitress, whiskey!
Re: Five Songs Bruce Hums to Himself When He Thinks No One Can Hear
Date: 2007-05-13 02:32 am (UTC)BRUCE: [slips her a wad of bills] Could you just give us the bottle?
CLARK: [pretends not to notice] You okay, Richard? We could go back to my place for some coffee.
RICHARD: [goes from wailing to leering in a blink] Oh really?
BRUCE: Where's that bottle?
CLARK: [blushing] Er, well. I do make good coffee.
BRUCE: [mutters] I bet you do.
CLARK: [looks affronted] What's that supposed to mean?
BRUCE: [smooth as silk] What?
RICHARD: Wait, I thought we were talking about going back to your place, Clark.
CLARK: He started it!
BRUCE: [uncaps the bottle the waitress just handed him] I have no idea what you're talking about. [drinks a swig]
RICHARD: This is worse than when we had you over for dinner Clark and Lois tried talking to you.
CLARK: [groans at memory]
BRUCE: [passes Clark the bottle] Go on, Smallville. Show us what you're made of.
CLARK: [eyes bottle distastefully] I'm not sure this is safe for human consumption.
BRUCE: [narrows his eyes] And just what are you implying?
RICHARD: I just wanted some se--coffee. Can't we all just have some coffee?
;)
Re: Five Songs Bruce Hums to Himself When He Thinks No One Can Hear
Date: 2007-05-13 06:05 am (UTC)CLARK: ... I think I should just take him home.
RICHARD: [laughs and nudges Bruce who's now sharing his personal space] See why I like this guy?
BRUCE: ... [look at Richard. Properly appraises Clark for the first time]
CLARK: [bears the bottle defensively]
RICHARD: [grinning] Clark always looks out for us.
BRUCE: Come back with us, Clark. I have enough room for everyone *and*... [stands, places hand on Clark's shoulder] my place is closer.
CLARK: I have to work tomorrow morning.
RICHARD: [struggles to his feet] Clark, if you don't join us I can't guarantee Bruce won't get us lost. [frowns] You're looking shiny round the edges, I might need both of you.
BRUCE: Actually, Richard --
RICHARD: To help me walk.
CLARK: [sighs] If you insist. [supports Richard at one side] Thank you, Mr. Wayne, for offering.
BRUCE: [takes Richard's other arm] Bruce.
CLARK: Pardon?
BRUCE: Call me 'Bruce'.
RICHARD: ... Did we pay?
Re: Five Songs Bruce Hums to Himself When He Thinks No One Can Hear
Date: 2007-05-13 05:55 pm (UTC)RICHARD: [enjoys the pretty halos around Bruce and Clark] You two look like angels. With very square jaws.
BRUCE: ...you two got started before I got there, didn't you?
CLARK: [looking worriedly at Richard] He's not usually like this, I swear.
BRUCE: [smiles with a little glint] The two of us will just have to catch up. [discreetly sends Alfred a text message telling him to lay out the booze]
CLARK: [can't help noticing that Bruce's fingers are moving inside his pocket]
RICHARD: [can't help noticing that Clark is staring at the vicinity of Bruce's crotch]
BRUCE: [basks]
