The 'Five Things' Challenge!

Comment on this post with a 'five things' prompt for one of the fandoms listed below and I will answer with five alternate responses to the prompt, e.g. "Five People Rodney Banned From His Lab" (Stargate Atlantis), "Five Times Batman Called on Nightwing for Help" (Batman), "Five Things Gabriel Misses of Heaven" (The Prophecy), etc.

As this is very experimental, five prompts will be available per fandom -- if this works well the number might expand the next time around. Lurkers welcome, I don't have to know you if you'd like to request something. You can request as many as you like, so long as it's still available on the list.

I hope you had a lovely time at Vision Quest, m'dear, and welcome back!

1) I don't hold it against you, Zoë.

I can't hold your happiness against you, I just, uh... you sure you couldn't have had your honeymoon on Serenity? I'd've let Wash fly her anywhere he wanted for those two weeks.

O' course I mighta had t'make a quick stop on Demeter or.... See, I can fly the old girl just fine m'self, but - you left me stuck with that fool mechanic! How could you do that to me, Zoë?

2) You know, Shepherd, if I'd the chance to go back to the day you and the Tams came under our roof... none of you'd be here now.

I'm fair certain of that.

But this ship needed some moral fibre in its diet and we didn't suffer too much for your company. None too much at all. So, thanks for that open invitation to Haven, you can be sure anticipate sufferin' our company for many days to come.

Be safe, old timer.

3) Kaylee, you've been on this ship long enough to know the rules - and as your Captain, I know you well enough t'anticipate the only way to say my piece is by not bein' in the room, so... here you have it:

The next time you insist t'bring a boy aboard my ship, make sure he's not the son o' the man we just swindled! And if you can do this much, then y' oughtta bring him before me, 'cos... n-nobody steps on Serenity without meeting the Captain first!

I don't want to have to find my mechanic is otherwise occupied by havin' t'see it with these own two eyes, do you understand me?

Check his background! Bring him to me. If I approve see all's well we'll be laughin' 'n shiny, see?

4) I don't like you and I don't like the trouble you've brought bangin' down my door since we took you 'n your sister in at Aerial, but it's all gone and done now. Bygones be by, bridge water 'n such. You got a half-decent criminal mind if you put it to use and you both put enough coin in our pockets to earn your keep, but aside from the... emergency medical attention, you know what I appreciate the most, Simon Tam?

Heh, I can't count the number of opportunities I'd have missed to upset the Alliance in new and creative ways if you Tams hadn't hauled anchor with us. Just the thought gets me all inner warm 'n fuzzy.

5) Hey... hi, Inara.

The, uh - the crew's sending a package your direction, thought it'd be nice - Kaylee thought it'd be nice - for us all to say hi and look into how you're doing.

So, how are you doing?

I'm good. Keeping busy, not that I have much 'a chance for boredom what with keeping my crew fed and my ship in the air, but you remember how it is.

We've been looking into new possibilities of someone renting out your shuttle, or either of the shuttles really, but yours is the better maintained for livin', Simon said. Heh, Simon says. Haven't had much luck, though I think little Kaylee's sabotaging the whole process. She misses you, River too, though she don' say so much clearly, we discernin' folk can tell.

... So, that's about it. As we're going there'll always be a shuttle free on Serenity if you ever... you know.

We'll make space.

1) *dies laughing* Oh, man, that last part... I can practically hear him yelling that behind me. *g* And them having a honeymoon on Serenity... ha! I guess even Mal knows that'd be too much gall. ;)

2) But this ship needed some moral fibre in its diet... Hee, and that right there is why he'd never send it. But he sure knows it's true.

3) If I approve see all's well we'll be laughin' 'n shiny, see?

Okay, I may or may not be breaking my chortle muscles right about now. *g* But seriously, I love this maternal!Mal who doesn't want to admit that his concern is maternal. ♥

4) HAAA! New and creative ways to upset the Alliance. Spot-on Mal dialogue, that is. In fact, I think that could be Serenity's unofficial motto. :D

5) ♥ "We'll make space" is such a perfect way of saying the unsayable. And the emphasis on Kaylee missing her... ha. You ain't foolin' no one, Mal!

Aw, you always leave me such lovely feedback to read! Somehow I initially missed this one.

When I first witnessed Mal he bothered me. He was ill-justified, pig-headed and is not the kind of person I'd allow to lead *me*, but he works for the crew of Serenity. He's dorky and faulted and not always so confident, but his love for his crew shines through. He's closeted and I think even in letters he never sends, he's still so guarded.

Mal/Inara is stubborn requited love, why must they deny?? 'M so tired of it.

When I have the time I consider it a honor to feed my favorite authors! :D

Yeah, I had a similar initial reaction; his leadership style isn't the kind that would work for me, but he does know his crew, yes he does. It would be interesting to see letters he'd write while piss drunk. I wonder if then he'd drop his guard at least a little. *g*

Awww, *pats*. That's why we got lotsa writers who put them together :D
